I come from a family of prodigious gardeners. And while I do grow a few things in my back yard, I’ve never had the same success or skill as my Mom, my aunt, or my grandmother who can coax hydrangeas back from the dead and produce beautiful, robust heads of garlic without breaking a sweat. Last year, I decided that if I can’t grow’em, I’ll paint’em. I started with a few loose flowers and kept going. The result was an entire botanical alphabet.
