In 1996, I spent a year living in Sydney, Australia. While the Opera House stands indisputably as a wonderful piece of architecture, I became smitten with this building because of a rock band and a moment in time. During a night in November, the forecourt of the building became the backdrop for Crowded House, a band as iconic as the the Opera House itself, to play its last concert, outdoors, in front of 150,000 fans. Even today, 25+ years later, I can’t look at this building without smiling deeply and hearing the opening lyrics to the first song of their set, “She came all the way from America …”.
